2007 PCLG Annual Symposium
7th-8th November 2007, Zoological Society of London, London, UK
The 2007 PCLG Annual Symposium will take place on 7th-8th November 2007 at the Zoological Society of London (UK). The theme of this year's meeting is 'Climate Change, Conservation and Poverty: What are the implications of climate mitigation and adaptation for conservation-poverty linkages'. The PCLG symposium is provisionally planned as follows:
Day 1: During the first half of the day the PCLG Secretariat will report on the activities undertaken during the previous year. The second half of the day will be dedicated to a review and a discussion of the most recent initiatives addressing protected areas-poverty linkages.
Day 2: The second day will be devoted to the discussion of the topic 'Climate Change, Conservation and Poverty'. Sessions will address:
a. biodiversity as an adaptation mechanism for indigenous and local communities;
b. impacts of climate change on poverty as a result of changes in biodiversity;
c. implications of conservation-based climate mitigation approaches (avoided deforestation, carbon trading) for indigenous and local communities. We hope the outcomes of the meeting will be able to feed into the Climate CoP in December.
A more detailed – though still provisional – agenda for the meeting is available (see link below).
The PCLG annual symposium is intended as the main forum for PCLG members to meet and discuss issues of relevance to them as a group. We would therefore like to remind everyone of the importance of attending the annual meeting, which is an opportunity to bring members together to explore and share ideas relating to a specific theme, and to bring members up to speed with the key issues, the latest developments in policy and practice, and with members' experiences.
