Résumé
In 1948, three years after its founding, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The declaration outlined the basic rights of individuals, which all UN member nations were thereafter bound to recognize. Among other provisions, all people were guaranteed the right to life, liberty, and security of person (personal safety).
