Quantity and significance of wild meat off-take by a rural community in the Eastern Cape, South Africa

This case study aims to assess the quantity and significance of wild meat off take by a rural community in South Africa. To do so, the authors use last-catch records from 50 gatherers to calculate average off take of species types and average mass of meat collected per collection event. The authors conclude that, even though off take can be significant, it tends to affect species of low conservation priority.
